Alpaca Show and Paso Fino Demo, Orangeville, Ontario April 8th 2006

This horse demonstration was dedicated to the memory of Brooke Di Bernardo. Special thanks go to Ellen Amos, the owner of the Andalusian.

Members of The Eastern Canadian Paso Fino Horse Association recently had the opportunity to demonstrate their horses at the Orangeville Fairgrounds in a Latin themed alpaca show. As the last of the adorable alpacas were sent packing, (an hour or so later than scheduled), the horses gaited into the ring to the vibrant beat of Latin music. Various Paso Fino gaits were performed, as well as troche and gallope.

Victoria Poe, with her grey mare, Querica, demonstrated the corto and canter, while Camilla Willings of 'Fina Vista Farm' and her stallion, Mercenario de La Libertad, finoed flawlessly for the crowd. These two riders and their talented Pasos performed a 'Pas de Deux' to music, delighting the audience with their military precision and ballet-like beauty.

Two beautiful horses from Juan Alhach's 'Hacienda del Sol' showed something new to the people attending. The palomino stallion 'Trote y Galope' horse, Bolero, performed the diagonal trote and his ultra smooth galope. The chestnut gelding, Temerario, exhibited the trocha gait that can carry a rider smoothly for hours.

The exhibit was rounded out by an Andalusian stallion, one of the founding breeds of the Paso Fino, performing basic classical dressage movements, and a Peruvian Paso showing his termino to lively South American music, accompanied by singing and clapping. This beautiful Andalusian Stallion, Invasor III, is owned by Ellen Amos of Aspera Terrent Farm.

Credit must be given to all the exhibitors who had to wait outside in the cold wind with their horses much longer than expected, as the alpaca show went overtime. The 'Paso Paparazzi' spotted numerous CCPFHA members throughout the audience and wish to thank all who were able to come to support and enjoy this fun performance. Thanks to Carlos Escuderos for inviting the the Paso Finos to the show.

Most of the photos below were taken outside the arena before the show, as the arena was too dark (and my photography skills too poor) to get decent photos from the performance. - Janet
