Icelandic Horse

Menja Vom Sandloh

This week we are featuring our first horse of the Icelandic breed! Menja Vom Sandloh, or Menja for short, is a 13.3 hh Icelandic mare owned by Judy Petursson of Orangeville, Ontario. This 13 year old chestnut mare was born in Germany and came to Canada 6 years ago. She had given birth to a filly in Germany and was also in foal when she arrived here, eventually giving birth to a chestnut colt.

Over the years Menja has also foxhunted many times, with "big horse" owners looking on in disbelief at her ability to keep up with the field. Menja has demonstrated her breed at the Royal Winter Fair and participated in several local fair demonstrations.

Together Judy and Menja have participated in several Icelandic horse clinics and shows. Earlier this year she was part of a six horse demo at the CAN AM in London and she competed in a Gaited Fun Show at Teen Ranch in July with other Icelandics as well as Paso Finos and Rocky Mountain Horses. She is seen in the photo above participating in the "egg and spoon race". She has a wonderful disposition, is very easy going and relaxed and always a pleasure to work around.

Congratulations to the beautiful Menja Vom Sandloh for being our August 28th, 2006 Horse of the Week!
