Simon

Simon is owned by Emma Bradbury of Barrie, Ontario and he is boarded at Chomar Hill Equestrian Center.

Emma says this of Simon:

"I bought Simon almost two years ago from an auction. He had such a unique and playful personality that we knew he was going to be my first horse. When we purchased him we were told he was a six year old, green broke Quarter Horse. Later on, after he started losing his baby teeth we figured out he was three and a half and not broke. This didn’t matter however. He was such a willing boy that working with him was a pleasure. Even better, when we figured out why he sometimes acted like a baby, he was one!

Simon’s best feature is his personality, and one of his funniest traits is how he will eat absolutely anything. From my cheese sandwiches (which he sneaks out of my hand when I am not looking) to fake flowers on jumps, there is nothing he won’t try.

Quarter HorseSimon is so brave to jump those cross country jumps without hesitation. He likes getting on the trailer because whenever we go to shows he knows he is in store for another adventure and a handful of treats. Simon is usually a calm boy and does not flinch when snow falls off the roof even if his best friend runs across the arena. The one thing Simon can not handle is when a squirrel runs along the rafters. Then I am guaranteed a quick trip to the other side of the arena.

This will be my third summer with Simon and our second of showing. Last year we did the North River Rider schooling shows and this year I am hoping to take him entry level eventing with my farm, Chomar Hill Equestrian Center. Considering that he was not even green broke I take pride in having brought him this far. Simon loves to jump and he loves adventures so I think horse trials will be fun for him.

Simon is a wonderful horse. He is always fun to be with - he keeps me entertained with his antics and amazes me with his intelligence and willingness to learn."

Congratulations to Simon for being our April 28th, 2008 Horse of the Week!
